Chetpet is one of the older localities in the city of Chennai. In fact, it is considered to be one of the original villages that were originally merged by the British to form Chennai, along with other villages, like Nugambakkam and Egmore.The locality is one of the more famous residential areas in Chennai, being located more towards the centre of the city as compared to other preferable locations in Chennai. It is also served by the Chetpet Railway Station which lies on the Beach-Tambaramline of the Chennai Suburban Railway.
